By now, many of you are aware that Twitter delayed the scheduled maintenance of its global service on Monday. Twitter's schedule would have cut off service while Iranians were using it to swap info and inform the entire world about the protests in Iran. The New York Times, quoting Jack Dorsey of Twitter, said that it "has the potential to change history in an ancient Islamic Country." Twitter, of course complied with the delay and scheduled it for 1:30 a.m. Wednesday in Tehran. Not bad press for a company that didn't exist four years ago.
U.S.State Department said, "This is completely consistent with our national policy." What's clear is that the new administration views social networking as a key "arrow in its diplomatic quiver."
Sounds to me like an extension of the President's education, an education he got from Silicon Valley while he was campaigning.
Cool!
